Looking for easy ways to upgrade your home without a renovation? These simple weekend projects will refresh your space with minimal time, money, or mess.

I know how overwhelming it can be to look at your home and just feel really dissatisfied.

It's easy to dream about a mega-renovation for your space. But, it's not always realistic to happen in reality.

Whether you are limited by time, ability, budget, or all of the above, it's easy to get discouraged and think that you will never love your home.

Today I want to talk about a few simple ways that you can upgrade your home and weekend without having to renovate.

Upgrade Your Home Without a Renovation

Simple Ways to to Upgrade Your Home Without a Renovation

Here are some of my favorite ways to update your home in just a weekend!

1. Add Hidden Storage That Feels Custom

One of the biggest differences between your home and a home that you would see in a magazine is clutter.

Unfortunately, clutter is a part of real life.

I love adding hidden storage to give items that have previously been clutter a new place to live. Out of sight, much more chic.

Here are some of my favorite hidden-storage projects:

  • In-drawer spice rack
  • DIY cube storage console table

2. Style a Messy Area

Another thing that is making your home look messy is if you have spaces that are not decorated intentionally.

Now, it's fine to have practical items. But let's see if we can make them cute!

Here are some simple tips for styling your surfaces:

3. Organize the Kitchen Like a Pro

Decluttering and organizing your spices is a weekend win that pays off every day.

An organized kitchen is not only better to look at, but functions much better, too. Suddenly, cooking isn't so bad!

Storage solutions we have DIYed in our kitchen include:

  • Spice drawer organizer
  • DIY drawer dividers

4. Bring in Real or Faux Greenery

Houseplants (or convincing faux ones) can make any room feel more vibrant and alive with no renovation needed.

I love a good houseplant because they bring in color and texture and just make a space feel homier.

And who doesn't want an excuse to head to the garden center?!

5. Hang Something on the Wall

One of the easiest ways to make a home feel decorated is to hang things on the wall. This could be art, photos, wall hangings, or mirrors.

Do you have something that's been sitting around for a while waiting to be hung? Hang it this weekend!

Need something new? Let's pick something large enough to fill the space and interesting enough to be worth the hang.

6. Build Small but Stylish Furniture

If you have built a few things, you probably have the skills needed to build a small piece of furniture in a weekend.

And what a good feeling it is when you can slam out a whole project, start to finish, and totally improve your space in just 2 days.

Here are some of our favorite easy one weekend builds!

7. Create an Accent Wall

An accent wall is high-impact and low-commitment—perfect for a weekend project.

8. Give Old Furniture New Life with Paint

Don’t replace it—paint it! You can totally transform old furniture or accessories with the right paint color.

And while painting a room might be an overwhelming task, painting a smaller item - like a side table or a lamp - is not! It's so doable!

Here are some of my favorite simple paint transformations:

  • Simple Side Table Makeover with Spray Paint
  • Apothecary table makeover with paint and contact paper
  • IKEA Hemnes Dresser Mid Century Modern Hack
  • Mid Century Modern Dresser Makeover
  • A Campaign Dresser and Side Table Makeover

9. Upgrade Hardware

New knobs or pulls can instantly refresh your kitchen, bathroom, or furniture—no painting required.

All you need to remove old knobs and add new ones is a screwdriver, and it is a quick and easy way to modernize your space.

10. Swap Out Light Fixtures

Changing a dated light fixture is one of the fastest ways to modernize a room.

It’s often just a few screws and wires, but the impact is huge.

Be very careful when changing a light fixture - always be sure to cut the power at your electrical box, not just cutting off the switch!

Small upgrades can make a big impact—and you don’t need a full renovation to fall in love with your home all over again.
