101 in 1001: Buy something for myself I wouldn't normally buy

One of my absolute favorite episodes of Parks and Recreation was the "Treat Yo' Self" episode where Donna and Tom have one day a year where they go out and buy things for themselves that they wouldn't normally buy and don't have any remorse or regrets. In case you aren't familiar, please take a moment to familiarize yourself so we can be on the same page.

OK, now you get it. That's why, along with tasks to buy each other presents for no reason, we put tasks for buying something for ourselves that we wouldn't normally buy into our 101 in 1001 list. For me, I'm a really practical guy when it comes to making purchases of any kind. Honestly, it's mostly about me seeing something and just knowing that I would never use it or I already have something that is serviceable and I don't need something new. Well, I have been making a concerted effort over the last year or so to consciously dress a little more trendy. One thing that I haven't gotten into, though, is my sock game. See, I have plenty of work socks. Why would I need new socks if I have socks? Well, my socks are mostly solid khaki, solid blue or solid brown. Not exactly the most thrilling sock drawer on the block. So I decided I was going to treat myself and buy new socks with fun, hip designs on them.

We headed over to the brand new Nordstrom Rack that was just opened in Mount Pleasant. Morgan told me that they have great deals on nice clothes there, so I thought this would be the perfect place to find some good socks.

Boy was I right. They had a whole wall covered in colorful socks!

I made some decisions and decided to get four two packs of socks, totaling eight unique, colorful, fun and trendy designs.

I was really happy with my sock purchases and, while it may sound dumb, I really feel cool and better about myself. I don't know how many people are noticing my socks, but I know I look better. Check out some examples!

Sock game on fleek. You may not feel like this was really "treating myself," but I promise that this was way more than I usually do. When I have something serviceable, I don't see the need to replace it, but I did this time, and that's a step in a good direction!
