The start of Fall brings a lot of excitement – cooler weather, new routines, and of course, football. Sean is all geared up for a great season. While I’m not that into football myself, I love any opportunity to try out new recipes. Football foods are fun to make and an exciting treat to eat as well. Today I have a recipe for Nachos featuring Dr Pepper® pulled pork.

If you’ve never slow cooked meat with a can of Dr Pepper, you are missing out. The sweetness of the soda contrasts perfectly with the savory flavor of the pork for a flavor explosion in your mouth. The unique 23 flavors in every Dr Pepper make this pork perfect to pair with a lot of different flavors – salty cheese, creamy avocado, sweet fruits like peaches and tomatoes, and fresh herbs are some of our favorites.

These nachos are great as a munchie for a couple of people on the couch, but the recipe can also be doubled and served as more of a nacho bar if you have a larger group. You can never go wrong with build your own nachos! I’ve included some of my favorite toppings that complement the wide variety of flavors in a Dr Pepper, but get creative and mix them up in your own unique way! You won’t regret giving this recipe a try. Visit this website for more ideas!

Of course, we like to pair our nachos with an ice cold Dr Pepper. To keep the cans cold, and for a little more football fun, I whipped up some DIY football themed koozies and coasters. To make your own, all you need is a small amount of faux grass or astroturf. Trace out a rectangle about the size of your can (approximately 4″x 8″) and use hot glue to form it into a tube. To make the coaster, I just cut a can-sized circle out of the same material! Simple and fun, especially for parties!

I picked up everything that I needed to make the nachos at my local Publix. In addition to the Dr Pepper and the ingredients to make the nachos, I also picked up a box of HOT POCKETS®, one of Sean’s favorite simple football foods. We love shopping at Publix for their great service and deals on products like these.
