The Top Kitchen Backsplash Trends for 2025

Want to give your kitchen a makeover? Here are the top kitchen backsplash trends for 2025!

Redesigning your kitchen is a huge endeavor. Whether you are fully gutting it or just making a couple of key swaps, it is one of the biggest rooms that you can tackle in your home.

That's because the kitchen is the heart of the home. It sees a lot of action. But it's also because it's the room that is home the most fixtures that are kind of a big deal to swap out.

By that, I mean that a living room is almost always easier to renovate than a kitchen because it's mostly decor. You've got floor, walls, lights - but otherwise it is easily moveable stuff.

Your kitchen has a lot of fixtures - things that aren't so easy to remove. I'm talking cabinets, tile, counters, appliances - and backsplash.

Today I want to focus on backsplash tile and specific trends I am seeing in this space this year.

Because, like it or not, a dated backsplash can date your whole kitchen. Just swapping out this one element can often do a lot to modernize the space!

Tile trends are constantly evolving and changing - both majorly and in tiny tweaks.

Today I want to share some of the biggest current backsplash trends that you might consider if you are re-doing yours.

Remember - if you are renovating a home you plan to live in, the most important thing is that you like it.

But, trends influence people's opinions and they also influence the materials that are available in stores.

So, it's important to have the current trends on your radar - especially if you plan to sell your home in the next 5 years!

The Top Kitchen Backsplash Trends

Here are my favorite backsplash trends for the year!

Note: I have included computer-generated images of each of these tile trends. I wish I could have them each in my home to photograph, but I do not. I hope these images help you to best visualize the trend I am describing!

Slab Backsplash

One of the biggest trends that is continuing to run supreme is to use the same stone slab as your countertop as your backsplash.

I love this trend - and we almost did it in our kitchen. I love it because it is super clean, is honestly one less decision in a big decision making project, and is incredibly timeless (assuming your counters are neutral).

The biggest con is that it is expensive (you basically have to buy another countertop slab.) But, you save money compared to hiring tilers to just have your counter installers do it all at once.

We personally opted not to go for this look because I wanted some excitement and a pop of texture and color, but if you want a really clean slate, this would be what I recommend!

Warm, Natural Tones

Just like in paint color trends, warm tones are here to stay! Consider natural materials like stone in warm tones.

Tile can feel a bit stark if it is too white, so even a softer, warm cream can feel much cozier!

  • Artmore Tile Ravello Pergamo
  • PALISADE Venetian Marble Matte PVC Stone Look Wall Tile
  • Satori Bianco Perla Hexagon Mosaic

Moody Colors

If you want a bit of a bolder backsplash, go for a deep moody color. I'm talking dark green, chocolate brown, navy blue, and even black.

Dark, moody colors can be great contrast to light cabinets and can add depth and interest to your space!

Just know that a bold choice like this is most likely of all the trends to feel dated quicker!

  • Bedrosians Makoto Kuroi Black Hexagon Tile
  • Artmore Tile - Hills Red

Classic Shapes

Regardless of if you prefer a light or darker tile color, classic shapes are still most popular.

By this, I mean either rectangle or square tiles.

Of course, we bucked that to go with our mermaid scale tile - so it's not to say that you can't do anything unique. Just most commonly you will see rectangular backsplash tile!

  • Satori Tereno Verde
  • Artmore Tile ColorBrick Blue Jean

Textured Tiles

If you go for a more neutral tile, consider something with texture.

This could mean natural texture - like you see in natural stone.

Or, it could be artificial texture like ridges or fluted "stripes".

Texture is a cool way to add visual interest without necessarily adding more colors to the mix.

  • Satori Ikon Glacier
  • Artmore Tile Ondas Golden Valley

Statement Grout

Another fun option I am seeing is statement grout! This could mean black grout on white tiles, or even a colored grout.

It's a bold choice, but one that is really fun - and actually possible to change down the line (by replacing the grout or painting with a grout pen) without changing out the tile!

  • A great grout that comes in many colors!

Full Walls of Tile

Finally, no matter what backsplash you choose, I am seeing tons of full walls of tile.

This means that your tile goes up all the way to either the ceiling or the bottom of the cabinets/range hood.

This is a dramatic look, and depending on your layout might not actually require that much more tile. But it looks luxe and fabulous when done!
