There are few things that will transform your home as substantially as paint. I love painting because it is relatively cheap and you don't need any special skills or tools to do it.

You can, of course, paint the walls in your house and change the look of a room. You can also paint fixtures in your space.

There are tons of fireplace paint ideas that can be done easily and cheaply as DIY. For example, painting a brick fireplace will give you a room a totally new look.

Is painting a fireplace a good idea?

Paint is a great way to transform a fireplace without spending a lot of money. But, beware - especially if you are dealing with brick or stone, it can be nearly impossible to un-paint a fireplace once the paint is up there. So, really take time to consider and mock up the color before committing!

What sheen is best for painting fireplace?

Typically, you want to use an eggshell finish on brick fireplaces, a matte finish on stone fireplaces, and a semi-gloss finish on trim or molding type fireplaces.

Should fireplace be lighter or darker than walls?

If you want your fireplace to be a focal point in your space, choose a paint color that will stand out. This means, if your walls are light, choose a dark paint color for the fireplace. If your walls are dark, choose a light color for your fireplace.

If you want your fireplace to blend in and to hide it a bit, paint it the same color as the walls for more of a monochromatic, soft look.

What is the most popular color to paint a fireplace?

The most popular fireplace paint colors will be neutrals. This could include:

  • White - match to your trim if possible
  • Off white/cream
  • Gray - light gray for neutral, charcoal for bold
  • Black
  • Navy blue
