This modern bird house gives the visitors to your yard a beautiful place to live. Learn how to build this bird house and get the plans!
I recently shared a build for a modern angled bird house, but I wanted to make one that seemed modern in a midcentury way.
This one is possibly my easiest bird house in the series because all the cuts are straight cuts, with no miters or bevels, making it really easy to do. You can also adjust it and customize it to be bigger if you want as well.
I love the two toned look of this midcentury modern bird house, but you could easily make it all one color or do any combination you want!

How to build a modern bird house
This is a fun build to make and is great for kids because of the straight cuts. Then it is all glued and nailed together, so anyone can do this with virtually any saw.

Materials needed to build
Here's the materials and tools you'll need to build this modern bird house. Get the exact cut list and materials list in my woodworking plans for this modern birdhouse!
- (1) 1x6 cedar board
- Outdoor sealant
- Saw
- Brad nailer and nails
- 1 ¼" spade bit
- Wood glue
- Keyhole hangers
Step one: Make cuts and sand
Start by making all the cuts. Everything is straight and easy, you just need to cut a couple pieces more narrow than the outside pieces.
When you've cut everything, use the spade bit to drill a hole in the center of the front piece so that the birds and easily get in and out.
Then give everything a nice smooth sanding.
Step two: assemble outside
Start by assembling the outside of the bird house. This is going to be the top and right side meeting at a butt joint with wood glue and nails.
If you want to do a two toned look on your bird house, this would be a good time to stain or paint these pieces to be different than the rest of the bird house.
Step three: add body pieces
Next, attach in the body pieces. I like to start with the back because it will be flush with the back edges of the side and top.
Then, attach the left side and bottom as well, followed by attaching the face on top of those.
When everything is connected, you can spray it down with outdoor sealant, then add screws to the back, 3" apart.
Step four: hang
Attach two keyhole hangers into a post or tree 3" apart from each other. Then slide in the screws hanging out of the back of the bird house to hang it.
Now your birds have a stylish place to sleep, raise babies, and even sit on to enjoy the view.
