How to Use Natural Texture Fall Decor to Cozy Up Your Home

Looking to make your home feel extra cozy this season? Natural Texture Fall Decor is the easiest way to add warmth and charm without a full makeover.

Do you want to give your home that cozy fall feeling? Fall decor doesn't just mean pumpkins. That autumnal feeling comes from cozy layers that make you want to curl up and drink a hot apple cider.

The secret to making your space feel cozy without a full makeover is texture!

Layering textures makes a room feel warm and cozy.

Let's talk about my favorite ways to add natural texture to any room for a fall aesthetic.

Natural Texture Fall Decor

How to Use Natural Texture Fall Decor to Cozy Up Your Home

So many people ask me for ideas for how to make a space feel cozy and interesting - without adding a ton of colors.

If you prefer a neutral look, but don't want your space to feel flat or boring, you need to focus on adding textures to your decor.

I love using texture in decor because it is such an easy way to create depth and coziness.

Great examples of textures are:

  • chunky knits
  • rattan or wicker
  • nubby fabric
  • velvet or velour
  • natural elements like raw wood or stone
  • metallics of different finishes

I also love that textures are so easy to mix in with existing decor. You don't need a full overhaul - just a few textured elements can really cozy-up the space!

Here are some of my favorite ways to add cozy texture to your home!

1. Layer Cozy Textiles

Textiles are by and far the easiest way to bring texture in, especially onto seating like a sofa, chair, or bed.

Throw blankets, pillow covers, and slipcovers are all easy to add and can totally change the vibe of a space.

For fall, consider swapping out lightweight fabrics for chunky knits, boucle, or flannel.

Here are some of my favorite fall textiles:

  • Chunky knit blanket
  • Boucle pillow covers
  • Flannel sheets
  • Faux fur pillow cover
  • Textured slipcover
  • Waffle Throw Blanket
  • Jute table runner
  • Cross stitch quilt
  • Chenille Lumbar Pillow

2. Incorporate Natural Fibers

Once your accent throws are set, look to incorporate natural fibers in other ways. This could be rugs, baskets, trays, ottomans, or even light fixtures.

Consider materials like jute, seagrass, rattan, or wicker.

Go for a monochromatic look or choose a few accent colors for an even more eye catching aesthetic.

Here are some popular natural material accents for fall:

  • Neutral jute rug - in tons of sizes!
  • Wall Hanging Rope Baskets
  • Jute Wall Decor Baskets
  • Woven Storage Ottoman
  • Seagrass vase
  • Wicker storage boxes
  • Scalloped seagrass trays
  • Wicker shade arc floor lamp
  • Basket style table lamp
  • Rattan Picture Frame

3. Use Wood Accents

Of course, wood is so beautiful and such a cozy element to add to any space.

This could be wood furniture, of course. But it could also mean displaying cutting boards, wood picture frames, or wood toned candlesticks.

I actually love to thrift old wood accent pieces - if they are real wood, you can often sand and re-finish them to be any wood tone. But, you can buy new, too.

Here are some great wood accent pieces:

  • Wood Arch Decorative Objects
  • Rounded wood mirror
  • Wood coffee table
  • Gallery wall of wooden frames
  • Wood + glass vase
  • Wooden taper candle holders
  • Wood Pedestal Serving Bowl
  • Scallop wood tray
  • Wood wall planters

4. Bring in Dried Botanicals

Transitioning any florals in your space from bright and cheerful flowers to dried grasses, wheat, or pampas is a great way to give your space more of an autumnal feel.

I love that this is a low maintenance option with a big seasonal impact!!

Think about your wreaths, centerpieces, and mantel decor. Is there anywhere you could add dried florals?

Some great dried florals for fall:

  • Dried Pampas Grass
  • Dried flower bouquet
  • Dried Babys Breath
  • Dried lavender
  • Dried Chasmanthium
  • Dried Daisy Flowers Bouquet
  • Preserved flower wreath

5. Layer Rugs for Depth

Nothing is cozier underfoot than a rug. They add warmth, visual interest, and coziness to any space.

Well, what about two rugs?!

Layered rugs look great, are double thick, and can be a great way to make a smaller rug (that you love!) feel larger (when layered on top of a larger more basic rug, or rotated on top of another rug for larger coverage.

I personally love the look of a natural fiber base rug with a patterened accent rug on top.

6. Play with Warm Metals & Earthy Accents

Finally, don't forget to bring in other earthy accents.

I personally LOVE the mix of warm metals (copper, brass, bronze) with ceramics for a cozy, fall feel.

This could be vases, candle holders, or table decor. Think about canisters and kitchen accessories, too!

Here are some beautiful finds for your space:

  • Copper Round Decorative Tray
  • Cordless Brass Table Lamp
  • Hammered Copper Flower Vases
  • Gold Catch All Bowl
  • Metal Picture Frame
  • Gold Knot Decor for Tabletop
  • White Textured Ceramic Bowl
  • Terracotta Vases
  • Ceramic Jugs
  • Hammered Brass Containers

Tips for Pulling It All Together

Bringing in all of these different accents can feel overwhelming and could spiral into a hot mess if you do too much too quickly. I always recommend accumulating over time and adding bit-by-bit until you get the look you love.

Also, I suggest sticking to a cohesive color palette. It can sometimes help to write it down or take a photo on your phone. Then, when you are shopping the aisles of TJ Maxx and tempted by a find - you can pull out your color palette and be sure it matches before adding it to the cart.

Remember - keep it simple! Small swaps can make a big impact towards a beautiful, seasonal home.
