Planting an Apartment-Friendly Herb Garden

This weekend, we planted some plants in the hanging herb garden that Sean built from a pallet. I am really trying to eat fresh and healthy foods, so I was eager to try to grow some fresh produce.

We simply filled each planter about halfway with soil (we grabbed a small bag of Miracle Grow potting soil), leaving room to add the plants. We soaked each pot of plant in a bucket of water before planting it. After we added each plant, we filled in around them with extra soil.

The planter has three levels of planters, so we decided to plant 8 different things.

The top shelf got red bell peppers and basil, because we think they will grow tall. We might have to add some stakes later. In the middle, we added a few small seeds and some seeds that we got as a wedding favor. We have no clue what they are!

The middle shelf got green onions, parsley, and a "seed ball", which was literally a ball of seeds that Sean got as a promo item at a work convention. It didn't say what it was so we have no idea what to expect.

The bottom shelf got jalapeno peppers and cucumbers. We really aren't sure if they will grow. It's all a gamble.

We've never had any kind of garden before, and this one is going to get a lot of heat and sun. I have a notorious black thumb, so hopefully we can remember to water them and keep them alive!

Do you have a garden? Did it grow?
