Want to make a BIG Halloween decoration?! Here's how to make a Hula Hoop Spider Web!
Spooky decor is so much fun, and it make it really fun, we love to go BIG!
Last year I made this huge XL spider out of playground balls.
This year, I decided to make a large spider web!
I was sort of self-inspired by my XL easter egg wreath to start with a hula hoop as my form. I love using a hula hoop because it's big, circular, lightweight, and inexpensive.
I then used twine to give it a faux spider web look.
This project was slightly tedious, but not hard. Here's how I did it!

How to make a Hula Hoop Spider Web
Here's how easy it is to make an XL spiderweb using twine and a hula hoop!
Supplies needed:
- Hula hoop
- White spray paint
- White baking twine (or similar thin rope)
- Scissors
Steps to make:
STEP 1: Spray Paint
Start by spray painting your hula hoop white. Spray one side, let it dry, flip, and paint the other side.
Do lots of thin coats instead of one thick coat to avoid drips and blobs.
Let that dry completely.
STEP 2: Tie cross pieces
Now is the time to add twine. Tie a piece of twine to the hoop. Pull it straight across the hoop and tie on the other end.
Don't worry about cutting excess strings yet, you can do that at the end.
Now, repeat that 2-4 more times, so you have made almost pizze slices in the hoop with string.
As the additional pieces cross the center, wrap them around
STEP 3: Add circular pieces
Once your cross pieces are in place, you want to add the circular rings of twine to create the spiderweb look.
Tie a piece of twin onto one of the cross pieces. Go around (clockwise or counter-clockwise, doesn't matter) and loop the twine around each piece as it passes. Tie it off when it goes back to the first cross piece.
You do not want to spiral inwards. You want to create circles, like rings on a tree. This will look most like a spiderweb.
Repeat every 2-3 inches in the rope.
STEP 4: Trim excess
Trim all excess, making sure the strands are tight and the knots are tight, too.
STEP 5: Hang and enjoy!
Hang and enjoy! I am using mine like a wreath over our fireplace mantel, paired with hot pink for a really fun, unexpected vignette!
