Big traditional holiday meals are awesome. Sometimes, however, it’s fun to do something a little more quirky. Sean & I love having fondue for special occasions – it really feels like a treat, but it’s super easy to make, clean up, & enjoy. Here’s the fondue pot that we use!
Our very favorite is cheese fondue, and we have found this recipe to be the best.
Easy Beer Cheese Fondue
What you need:
- 2 bags of shredded cheese – I use 1 bag of sharp cheddar and 1 bag of italian blend
- 2 t flour
- salt, pepper, old bay to taste
- 1 bottle beer
- 1-3 cloves minced garlic (to taste)
- Dipping things!
What you do:
Combine the cheese, flour, and spices in a bowl.
Plug in your fondue pot. Add the bottle of beer and the garlic to the pot and bring to a simmer. We like to keep the pot on a fairly low temp – it it still very hot!
Once the beer is slightly boiling, add your cheese mixture. Add one handful at a time and stir til it is all melted. It doesn’t take very long!
Dip & enjoy!
Here are our favorite dippers:
- Crusty bread
- Gerkin pickles
- Green apple
- Sausage slices
- Tortilla chips
Fondue pots can be bought anywhere, but I would recommend getting an electric one. I have much better luck maintaining a constant temperature with this type. Here’s the one we use!
Do you fondue?? 🙂
