I like to challenge myself (like my New Years eating health challenge) just to keep pushing myself to be a better person and to help achieve my personal goals. One of my biggest long term goals is to pay off my student loans as quickly as possible. However, such a big goal can be overwhelming, so I like to have small, short term goals to help me get there.
I’ve decided that, for the month of May, I’m not going to buy any clothing. That includes jewelry, shoes, socks, underpants, dresses, shirts, everything. I have tons of clothes. My closet is exploding with skirts and tops and sweaters and hats (and I never wear many of them). My jewelry box is overflowing with bangles and bling. I have shoe after shoe after shoe in the closet and in the entry way shoe storage drawers. I’m going to be okay for 31 days without anything new.
I really very rarely go out shopping for clothes any more. I’m much more likely to grab a cute top at Target when I’m looking for a curtain rod or “accidentally” click “buy” on the Rue La La app on my phone. So it’s mostly small purchases, but they can really add up! And that’s money I really need to be saving or using to pay down my debt.
So, yeah I guess I’m a little nervous that I might miss out on a great deal, but if there’s anything I can’t live without, I’ll grab it June 1st. Until then, it’s all about resisting temptation by staying out of the clothing sections of my favorite stores (Target & Marshalls) & staying off the internet flash sale websites!!!
Does anyone care to join me in my challenge?
