We love building custom closet systems in the Charleston Crafted household so you know our nursery closet system is tailored to fit our future baby’s needs. We built our nursery closet system with three boards and two rods and it was super easy. Check it out!

Nursery Closet System

We customized closet systems in our master closet, our old condo master bedroom, our guest room and, if you count a pantry as a closet, in there too. Custom closet systems are so much better than the single wire racks that are installed in most homes. They can be tailored to your specific needs and end up providing way more storage.

Construction

Here’s what it looked like after we gutted the old shelf and painted with Behr Marquee Tower Bridge.

We designed ours to have three shelves for bins, shoes or other miscellaneous items. We also wanted rods to hold outfits and upper and lower storage.

After cutting our boards to size (this would vary greatly for anyone wanting to recreate this due to size differences), we sanded and stained them with Rust-Oleum’s Early American stain.

We started by putting up the divider board and the top shelf board. We nailed the top board down into the divider board and then attached it to the wall with four small L-brackets.

Next, we added three shelves on the left side. We spaced these out to fit one of those standard fabric pop up bins. Don’t know if we’ll use these long-term, but they are a pretty generic size to base off of.

On the right, we used dowels and wood closet pole sockets to make two bars to hang outfits. The rods are pretty close together since they are for small baby outfits, but the lower one could be dropped in the future for bigger clothes. The pole was positioned far enough out so that these little baby hangers would fit.

Final

Simple as that. This nursery closet system was super easy to make and can be easily replicated and scaled. We have great upper and floor storage as well as the shelves and rods. Now we have somewhere for these clothes to go! Pair that with the refreshed bi-fold doors made with slats, this is a stylish closet!
