I love decorating with driftwood – it’s a great way to bring a natural element indoors. We’ve made a driftwood coffee table already, and I wanted to add an extra touch of this beautiful texture to our front room.
We are currently working on making over our front room which is a sort of formal living room. In addition to the seating area, the room also is the front entry to our home.
I personally love having a mirror next to a door so I can check myself before I step out, and I knew that I wanted to include a mirror in this space.
We are trying to include a variety of natural textures in the room and I took this as an opportunity to create a driftwood starburst mirror.

How to make a driftwood mirror
It’s really easy to use driftwood to upcycle an existing framed mirror!
Supplies needed:
- Framed mirror
- Assorted clean driftwood
- Hot glue
Steps to make a DIY driftwood mirror:
Making a driftwood mirror is easy! Here’s how to do it!
Step 1: Prep your mirror
I started with a rectangular mirror that I got for just under $5 at Goodwill. But, any simple framed mirror will work.
I was too cheap to spring for the $10 Walmart special this time 🙂 Sean popped off the frame and I was left with the mirror attached to a wooden base.
Step 2: Prepare the driftwood
Prepare the driftwood but selecting dry pieces in a variety of colors and thicknesses.
Break them by hand into 3-4 inch sections. I wanted the rough broken look and not a saw slice.
Step 3: Glue to frame
Use hot glue to attach wood to the frame. Work your way down the edge.
The trickiest part was the corners. I set a piece exactly diagonal from each corner and then filled in the gaps with smaller pieces.
HOT TIP – If you are still using old school hot glue guns, listen up – this high heat glue gun is inexpensive and is super effective and easy to use! It has changed my hot gluing life 🙂
This was a fairly quick (under an hour) and very inexpensive project.

Here's how easy it is to make a driftwood starburst mirror!
Materials
- Driftwood of various sizes
- Framed mirror
Tools
- Hot glue gun + sticks
Instructions
- Clean your driftwood. Make sure it is completely dry.
- Break into 3-4 inch long pieces - OR pieces your desired length. Depending on the width of your frame, you may want longer or shorter pieces.
- Do a dry layout. Arrange the pieces around the frame in a starburst shape.
- Once you are satisfied with the layout, use hot glue to attach them in place.
- Let dry completely.
- Hang and enjoy!
