How to Grill Pizza

Traditional grilling season might be over, but we are keeping it strong. Between the weather finally being enjoyable in the South and tailgating football season going strong, we are using our grill more than ever. One thing that we have been grilling a lot of lately is pizza! It is super quick and simple and it is easy to make delicious grilled pizza.

How to grill a pizza

To grill a pizza, first you prepare. Cut your grill up to 500 degrees and let it heat. Roll out the dough onto a pizza pan, leaving the dough a little thicker, and brush the top with olive oil and spices such as italian seasoning mix and garlic.

If you want to add veggie toppings, I suggest pre-cooking them by sautéing them on the stove. They will only be in the grill for a few minutes and won’t necessarily get very cooked in the grill.

To cook the pizza, flip the dough oil side down onto the grill. Quickly brush olive oil on the other side and close the grill for 2-3 minutes. The dough should get grill marks but not burn.

Flip the dough then quickly add sauce, cheese and toppings. You can cut off the grill at this point and close the lid. Let the pizza sit for about 3 minutes, until the toppings are all melted.

Remove from the grill and allow to cool on a pizza sheet for about 5 minutes.

This is perfect for parties and tailgates. The grill marks look great and taste great too. Grilled pizzas feel lighter and fluffier than regular baked pizza, but also offer a better crispiness. The prep time is a little longer for any toppings, but the cook time is way less. It tastes great to grill pizza and we do it whenever we can. We really love grilled pizza and think that you will too!
