The Guest Bedroom

I love having a guest room – it’s perfect for when you have guests! But that’s pretty infrequent for me. So, it’s really important that I come up with some other use for my guest room so that it doesn’t stay empty 360 days a year!

I started out with a pretty blank slate. This is actually Sean’s favorite bedroom because he loves how it is on a corner and has double windows.

The first thing that I did was load in my old furniture. I sort of haphazardly placed it just to sit tight for a while until I could get around to painting.

Then, we decided to paint it a rich teal color, Schooner by Olympic. I got rid of (or moved to a different room) all of the furniture except the bed.

Next, I upgraded the duvet cover to this one from target.

Once we got the whole bedroom set in here it looked SO MUCH more lived in!

The bedding is from Target. The furniture set is all vintage. The white sheer ruffle curtains are also from Target. This room is painted Schooner by Olympic.

We made the paintings on either side of the bed in a painting class. The directors chair is from my debutante days and the green blanket is from our trip to Mexico.

The side table, lamp, and clock are just old things we’ve had forever. The painting is thrifted and the cupcake dish came from Target.

The desk and chair came with the furniture set.

We added a simple gallery wall using all wooden frames. The wall includes our diplomas, my CPA license, and some framed pictures that Sean had for a while. I like the linear-ness of it & how the matching frames tie it all together.

Have you thought about painting the bed white? It would brighten the room so much and pop off your wall color....

I originally wanted white furniture in this room (I'm definitely a white furniture kind of girl, with "pops" of natural wood like a coffee table) but this is Sean's set (bed, dresser, desk) from childhood and he doesn't want it touched. Unfortunately!
