A Quick Trip to Montreal!

This past weekend I headed up to Montreal, Canada, for a bachelor party for the guy who was my best man. He’s my oldest friend, dating back to when we met at the ripe old age of two. I know more about this guy than most anyone else, so I was there to support him. He lives in Buffalo, NY, and everyone that was going on the trip was coming from all over different parts of the country. We had to fly somewhere, so we settled on Montreal.

Now, obviously I can’t break the code and tell you everything that went down, but here are some of the highlights of activities and how we spent our time!

Activities

  • Jet Boating- we went jet boating with Saute Moutons where we went out on the St. Lawrence River and go DRENCHED. I had the vision that this would be a long string of rapids and we would cruise through and kind of just get sprayed. Very wrong. The set of rapids was all in one small place, but the jet boat did circles around the area and dunked us in water. The driver dunked each side of the boat in huge rapids many times and we were entirely underwater. It was $67 (in Canadian money) and was totally worth it. It was our best activity.
  • Casino- Montreal has a casino on the outskirts of town that we had heard mixed reviews about. Some people said it was old retirees blowing their social security. Others said it was a good time. We checked it out and it was great. There was lots of video poker and slot machines on the first floor and card tables on the second floor. We spent several good hours there. The different between here and casinos in the USA is that they do not bring you free drinks while you’re playing. You have to order them from a waiter.
  • Wandering around- Montreal is a great city for wandering. Lots of outdoor bars, a cool river walk, markets, etc. Much of the downtown looks very European so it was like being in a different country.

  • Laser Quest- we tried to play laser tag, but when we showed up, it was all little kids. I mean, like 5-6 years old. We decided to leave because we didn’t want to be creepy. Keep it in mind if you’re interested.
  • New City Gas- this is a club. Yeah, I went to a club. It actually turned out to be more fun than I expected. The DJ was good and the place had a cool look too it, but I still don’t plan to go to a club ever again.

Dining

  • Les Trois Brasseurs- we had a great meal the fist night at this brewery. Lots of burgers, poutine, nachos and other foods. Great house made beer that you can buy by the tower.
  • Bier Markt- Another great place for burgers, Bier Markt was over near Laser Quest. They had hundreds of beers on draft and bottled so there were choices for everyone.
  • Bistro Brasserie Les Soeurs Grises– This place was about 200 yards from our AirBnB. They had so much great meat. BBQ, ribs, duck wings, foie gras, poutine and so much more. Everything was melt in your mouth. This was my favorite meal of the trip.

Theme Nights

  • T-Shirts- I made t-shirts for everyone to wear one day that had a bunch of inside jokes all over it. No one will understand but us…

  • Trailer Park Boys- TPB is a show that is set in, you guessed it, a Canadian trailer park. Therefore the guys wanted to dress up and act like the characters one night. It didn’t go over as well as everyone thought. Turns out, TPB is not as famous as The Office is here, much to the dismay of several people.
  • Fancy night- we dressed up one night in blazers and nice clothes when we went to New City Gas and Bistro Brasserie. It was fun and we looked darn good.

Accommodations

  • We rented an AirBnb from a guy named Jerome. This was an excellent place for a big group and he was super accommodating. It was in a good location near the Old Port and was a great place to crash. He made us a huge breakfast every morning and put up with our shenanigans. I would recommend this place to any group of guys going to Montreal.

That was the trip in a nutshell. It was a lot of fun hanging out with a bunch of my oldest friends as we prepare for yet another big life change in the group. Montreal was a cool city to explore and would be a fun place for any of you to go. There are lots more activities, but we only had three days. Montreal definitely seemed like a big city with lots going on!
