A Gruesome Dead Head Wreath

Happy Halloweek, y’all! I’m excited to bring you Halloween projects all week! Today I am sharing a sick project. If you think about it too hard, you might think I’m crazy. Just know that it’s purely decorative and I have no intention of stringing up actual babies 🙂

Gruesome Dead Head Wreath

So, here’s what I did. First of all, I had this sick idea to make a wreath from dead baby dolls. I thought it might be considered psycho, but after talking to a couple of people (my sister and Sean, who also might be sick & twisted like me) thought it was an awesome idea. So, I headed to the dollar store. After looking at the selection, I decided to get half dolls and half skeletons.

Next came the fun part – popping their heads off. I have a lot of practice pulling the head off of (my sister’s) Barbies, so this was easy (and fun) for me.

Next came the time to string these suckers together. My goal was for it to look like this:

So, I had to drill holes in their heads. I used a small drillbit. It’s important that when you drill the dolls, you don’t want to drill in the hair. It messes up her ‘do.

Then, you string them together. I initially used a thin floral wire. That was too thin. I ended up having to run out and get a 18 gauge wire from Lowes, so that it could hold a wreath shape.

Above you can see the not-round shape of the floral wire. I unstrung it and restrung it on the thicker wire and had much better results.

Now, This was kind of spooky, with the skulls next to the innocent little children. But, not spooky enough for me. I wanted them to bleed (wahahahaha *evil laughter*) So, I got out my trusty dirty glue gun (I keep one for glue & one for colored projects) and 3 red crayons and dripped “blood” all over these kids.

While I was at it, I made some “SPOOKY HALLOWEEN” letters to hang with the wreath.

After thinking about our strict HOA, we decided to make this an interior wreath. We hung it on the inside of our porch glass door. I hung the spooky letters underneath along with a creepy handprint, made from clingwrap cut around a traced handprint. Spooooooky!
